Let's
visit Founder's Plaza at DFW Airport on Saturday, September 13th from 10:00
am until 1:00 pm or so. Come any enjoy a picnic lunch under a sky streaked
with planes landing and taking off. Sitting in a nicely landscaped park,
you can listen to air traffic controllers on the public address system or
watch the runways through the available binoculars. If you are lucky, you
might see a pilot wave from his cockpit! Bring lunch.
Directions:
Follow the signs along the northbound and southbound Service Roads at DFW
International Airport. They will direct you to E. Airfield Drive. Turn
west onto Carbon Road (alsocalled 30th Avenue), and watch for the flags
at the Plaza.

CAMPERS,
SAVE THE DATE! This is especially just for those who couldn't make it to
the camping trip in June, or thought it was too hot. How about camping in
October? I am tentatively planning a camping trip for the weekend of October
18-19th. I was thinking maybe Dinosaur Valley and Fossil Rim, which is about
2 hours away. There are neat authentic Dino tracks for the kids to see,
hiking trails, a playground, and the Fossil Rim Wildlife Park is nearby as
well. The weather should be cooler by then. We would plan on heading out
Saturday morning and returning sometime Sunday, but you could make it a day-trip
only on Saturday if you didn't want to camp out. Let me know what you think,
or if you have a suggestion for another fun place to go camping.

Tuesday (the first Tuesday), September 2, 11 am
How
about going somewhere cool and cultural? Let’s all meet at the DMA the first
Tuesday in September and introduce our kiddos to many different kinds of
art and sculpture. In addition to the traditional collections (Asian, Pacific,
European Painting & Sculpture, Contemporary Art & Design, etc.) and
the exhibits (Maya Textiles from Guatamala, On the Way to Chichicastenago,
and Jacques Callot), they have a children’s learning area. I think that it
would be great fun!
Don’t forget to bring a lunch or snacks because
we can eat in the outdoor sculpture garden. (The Nasher Sculpture Garden
will be opening in October but the original sculpture garden on the south
side of the museum is still open.)
Art project thought: bring paper
and pencil or graphite (no crayons or markers or pens – museum policy so
as to protect the art) and let the kids (and maybe mom too) draw what they
see.LOTS OF FUN!
Let’s meet at 11 am (that’s when they open) at the
main entry at the north side of the building. Because it is the first Tuesday
of the month, admission is FREE! Parking is another story (so carpooling
would be a great option if you can). There are meters and lots around the
DMA at varying costs and the DMA hasa parking garage – cost $5.
Directions:
go south on I35. Once downtown, get onto Woodall Rodgers freeway (that’s
the one that cuts through the downtown area) toward I75. Exit Field Street
(the first exit) and stay in the right-hand lane (it makes a loop). Turn
right onto the service road and follow it until you get to St. Paul Street
and then turn right. The DMA is immediately on your left (and so is the parking
garage). You can take the elevator to the main floor; let’s meet at the visitor
center near the main entry.
